In 1880, a German businessman convinced eight Inuit from Labrador, including a man named Abraham Ulrikab, to accompany him to Europe to be “exhibited” in zoos and ethnographic shows. This volume tells Abraham’s story from his diary and correspondence, and from German newspaper pieces and advertising. Abraham’s account of his experiences in Germany is the earliest known Inuit autobiography.
